Alumni Relations

Northern Deke is the entity that owns the chapter house and is where we get our support and guidance. Northern Deke is a group of dedicated volunteers that meet at the chapter house on a monthly basis. Northern Deke is the group we pay our rent/dues to. They in turn take care of the utilities, insurance, upkeep, and other functions.

We also have a Chapter Advisor that we see on at least a weekly basis. As a student he was a leader on campus and is well versed in operations of a fraternity. He graduated in 1995 and by trade runs an IT third party recruiting firm in the Twin Cities. Through him and other Alumni we are developing a network that helps us focus on career planning including resume writing, internships, career path, letters of recommendation, and references when needed.

For the last year Northern Deke has been working on a fundraiser that between now and the end of Fall semester will put a new roof on the house, finish updating bedrooms doors, other fire/life safety improvements, a new computer lab, and new furniture, carpet, and paint on the first floor.

Starting this Fall semester we will be inviting local Alumni to dinner on Monday nights, reaching out to Deke Alumni from other chapters living in Minnesota, and recruiting a Faculty Advisor. We are aware of five Deke Alumni that are members of the faculty at the University and we will be inviting them to be involved in our chapter.

Greek Relations

This past year Deke continued its path of being strong leaders in the Greek community. The current Interfraternity Council has two Dekes serving as Officers. We were strong participants in the 2nd Annual Youth Day, participated in all of the sorority charity events and have become better friends with many of the fraternities.

The social scene at Deke continues to be as strong as ever. While we may have a few more gatherings than most groups do that does not mean that we are out of control. We have a reputation of working hard and playing hard that has been well earned over the years but we do so in a safe and well-mannered way.

We are paired with two of our favorite sororities for Homecoming and plans are already underway for a fun filled year.

University Relations

Our relations with the University of Minnesota are very good. We have a great working relationship with Chad the Greek Advisor and with Mandi the Director of Student Organizations and the previous Greek Advisor.

This past year we focused on building relationships with the Student Affairs Office including Jerry Rinehart, Vice Provost. We continued working with the University Police Department and have a very good understanding of what they expect from our fraternity.

In 2005-2006 we will work more on leadership development and career planning and tap into the many resources the University has to offer.
