Pledge Class Closes - Century Club

On Friday we will be closing our Spring 07' pledge class and kick off the next movement of Deke with a Century Club. Century Club will start around 9 p.m. and last... a Century. We would like to invite any alumni who would like to stop by meet the new guys. At the moment, we have 8 solid guys and are hoping to close 2 more by the end of the week.

Other news around the house:

The Fall 07' pledge class has began work on their pledge project. The second and third floor hallways are receiving a much needed make-over with a good sanding and fresh coat of paint. They hope to have everything completed in the next two weeks.

The 20 year old water heater broke... and was later fixed but it is on its last leg. The plumber was amazed that the heater had not died and gone to water heater heaven. The thing is built like a tank.

Two groups of guys will be heading out for spring break coming up in a week and a half. Brett and Kai are heading up north to good ol'

Canada

for a wonderfully freezing spring break while Omar, Will and Dustin will be going down to the sandy beaches of

Cancun

for 7 days / 6 nights.

Just a reminder: Alumni come to Century Club this Friday @ 9 p.m.

Week of Sept 26

Last Thursday we got together with the ladies from Delta Gamma. We had The Profits, a great band out of Madison, play a few sets for us in the basement of Deke. They played the next night at the Varsity Theater. Below are some pics of the band.

On Saturday we had a Brotherhood Event that went late into the evening.

Deke Homecoming Reminder

A reminder for this weekends Homecoming events. Tonight our Alumni will be meeting from 6-9 pm at Grandma’s on the third floor. All undergraduates over the age of 21 are invited.

Saturday the parade starts at 9 am and we are expecting many Alumni to attend.

Saturday night the Homecoming party for our pairing will be held at Phi Sig.

At both Deke events we will be accepting donations from Alumni to help in our effort in collecting items for a local food shelf.

Deke Mentioned In Homecoming Edition Of The Minnesota Daily

In the Thursday edition of the Minnesota Daily is a story on Homecoming preparations. Deke was one of the groups spotlighted. In the online edition there is also a 1+ minute video take in our basement showing preparations and interviews of members.

Homecoming House Front Preparations

We are well into our Homecoming preparations. Below are some pictures of us and our pairing as we continue the pomping process.

Pomping in case you have never had the pleasure of building a float or house front is the long tedious process of putting Elmer’s Glue on chicken wire, that has already been stapled to wood frames, and one at a time poking colored tissue into the holes.

Do that for hours upon hours, thousands of times, and you create a three-story house front for Homecoming.

Fortunately, we are ahead of the game.

The Blend Plays On The Deke Porch

September 10th we were fortunate to have a great Minneapolis band play for our recruitment event on the front porch for a few hundred of our closest friends. The Blend plays a hip-hop sound mixed with rock, jazz, and classical music.

We had a great time.

This same weekend was the first of three weekends when the police were out in force doing party patrols. We appreciate their support and were happy a few officers stopped by to chat. It’s always better to have a friendly relationship with them.

Here are two pics of the band and one of the crowd. We had some problems with the flash on the camera combining with the lights from the band.

Homecoming Event For Alumni

Deke Alumni and chapter members over the age of 21 are invited to Grandma’s on Friday, Sept 23 from 6-9 pm. Click here for a link and directions. Alumni are encouraged to bring a canned food item(s) on Friday night and Saturday for the parade. With so much aid going to the New Orleans area, and rightly so, we want to do our part for a local food shelf.

Any questions contact Jason Sorensen ’93 via email, jsorensen@dkssystems.com.

Road Trip To Ann Arbor

The weekend of October 8th we will be taking a road trip Ann Arbor for the Minnesota vs. Michigan game. We will leave on Thursday night and staying with our three chapters there: DePaul, Chicago, and Lake Forest.

We will then head to Ann Arbor for the weekend with our brothers from the Chicago chapters and Tulane.

This is Michigan’s homecoming game so we are hoping to see a Little Brown Jug victory.

Our fraternity headquarters is also in Ann Arbor so will attend a reception there after the game. Below are two exterior pictures of The Shant in Ann Arbor.
