Deke Wins Homecoming Awards

At the Homecoming Awards on Sunday night our pairing of Deke, Alpha Phi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Sigma Kappa, and Sigma Alpha Mu took 2^nd place in the Homecoming Front competition and 1^st in the Cheer competition.

Way to go!!!

Homecoming Weekend

We had a good weekend that started with the Alumni gathering at Grandma’s. We had a good turnout of undergraduates and Alumni. As usual many stories were shared, many of which should not be shared here. Let’s just say that back in their day our Alumni liked to have a good time too.

The weather did not cooperate on Saturday but did not dampen the festivities. It was good to see the Alums with their wives and children.

We will have some pictures to post in the next couple of days.

Tulane Dekes In The Star Tribune

In the Sunday morning issue of the Star Tribune is a story titled, Vikings foe: The Saints march on. On page 2 of the online version are quotes from Phil Sweeney regarding how important football is in Louisiana. Delta Kappa Epsilon is mentioned in the article.

Deke Homecoming Reminder

A reminder for this weekends Homecoming events. Tonight our Alumni will be meeting from 6-9 pm at Grandma’s on the third floor. All undergraduates over the age of 21 are invited.

Saturday the parade starts at 9 am and we are expecting many Alumni to attend.

Saturday night the Homecoming party for our pairing will be held at Phi Sig.

At both Deke events we will be accepting donations from Alumni to help in our effort in collecting items for a local food shelf.

Deke Mentioned In Homecoming Edition Of The Minnesota Daily

In the Thursday edition of the Minnesota Daily is a story on Homecoming preparations. Deke was one of the groups spotlighted. In the online edition there is also a 1+ minute video take in our basement showing preparations and interviews of members.

Homecoming House Front Preparations

We are well into our Homecoming preparations. Below are some pictures of us and our pairing as we continue the pomping process.

Pomping in case you have never had the pleasure of building a float or house front is the long tedious process of putting Elmer’s Glue on chicken wire, that has already been stapled to wood frames, and one at a time poking colored tissue into the holes.

Do that for hours upon hours, thousands of times, and you create a three-story house front for Homecoming.

Fortunately, we are ahead of the game.

Faculty Advisor Search

One of the ideas we came up with this summer was to find a Faculty Advisor for the chapter. Turns out we may have as many as four Alumni from other Deke chapters who are members of the faculty. We have one in the Carlson School of Management, CLA, and two at the Med School.

Until the past few weeks we were not aware of this Alumni presence so we are busy contacting them. Their role may be as simple as stopping by for dinner once a month or could be as involved as having weekly advising hours at the chapter.

At this point we are open to any suggestions they have and understand that they already have a busy schedule.

We hope to have this in place by November 1^st.

DKE Consultant Visit

Andrew Bird, DKE Consultant, was in town over the weekend for an annual visit. Andrew was here to meet with Chad, the Greek Advisor, Northern Deke, and the chapter.

With us we talked a lot about chapter operations and recruitment. Because he was only here for a couple of days we hope to have Andrew back in the next couple of months so we can work in some more planning and evaluate how the execution of this weekends work is proceeding.

We were fortunate that his Michigan State Spartans beat the Irish on Saturday. Andrew did a lot of pacing and swearing during the game but fortunately for him, and us, his ala mater came out on top. Andrew was a walk-on at Michigan State.

Minnesota And Tulane Dekes on WCCO TV

There is an earlier posting about our Tulane Brothers and their transition to life in Minnesota. We worked with our Chapter Advisor to propose a story to Darcy Pohland from WCCO TV Channel 4, local CBS affiliate.

Darcy was at Deke yesterday and interviewed Stephen, Robert, Phil, and our Chapter President Dave Jennings, and got some video footage of them at Deke, on campus, and in their dorm rooms.

Stephen gave a great tutorial on how to pomp and Phil had to mention the hot girls.
